Food for All: Community Fridge Project

A community fridge and pantry can be incredibly important for addressing food insecurity and promoting community solidarity. These initiatives typically involve setting up a public fridge or pantry in a central location where people can donate food and others can take what they need. This helps to ensure that everyone has access to nutritious food, regardless of their financial situation, while also reducing food waste. Community fridges and pantries also have the potential to bring people together, fostering a sense of community and empathy as people work together to support one another. This design was aimed to create a space for promoting community solidarity while also activating this space with a community planter box which is still under construction. After the completed construction of the shed, the community will gather to paint and personalize the structure.

Special thanks to Amal Barre and Oakridge Community Services for giving me the opportunity to design a community fridge for the residents of Oakridge. And special thanks to Design Build Iowa for making the project come to fruition and giving me the joy of seeing my first built project!
